Moving in Oakdale comes with a few details that can have a real impact on moving day. Where the truck can park, how far the crew has to carry furniture, stairs, elevators, and even winter parking restrictions can all affect the job.
AAA Movers has served the Twin Cities since 1964 and is a ProMover certified carrier operating under USDOT #1140502 and MN DOT #101574. Whether you want help with the entire move or plan to handle the packing yourself, the best place to start is with an estimate based on what you are actually moving.

A few details can make a bigger difference than the distance between your old home and your new one.
A local move in Oakdale generally runs $1,500 to $2,500, while a one-bedroom apartment move averages $1,000 to $1,500. Professional packing typically runs $750 to $1,500, separate from the cost of the move. Your actual price depends on the size and details of the job.
AAA Movers offers free estimates by phone, in person, or virtually. Choose the option that works best for you and provide as much detail as possible about what you are moving, the property, access, and your move date.

Oakdale's neighborhoods were developed at different times, and that can make two moves only a few minutes apart look very different.
According to the City of Oakdale, the community traces its roots to Oakdale Township, which was organized in 1858. Over time, portions of the original township became Lake Elmo, East Oakdale, Landfall, Northdale, and eventually the modern City of Oakdale.
You can still see some of that variety in the city's housing. Oakdale has older neighborhoods, traditional suburban single-family homes, apartments, and newer townhome developments. Washington County data lists 12,741 housing units in the city, including 8,720 owner-occupied homes and 3,352 rentals.
From a moving standpoint, the important part is access. One house may have a driveway where the truck can get close to the front door. Another property may have a shared driveway, private street, apartment loading area, or homeowners association rules that limit where the truck can go.
That is why the specific address matters more than making assumptions based on the neighborhood.
AAA Movers provides residential moving services in Oakdale.
Single-family homes with attached garages and driveways often provide good truck access. Even then, basements and garages can add considerably more belongings than homeowners expect, so they should be included when estimating the size of the move.
Older areas near Tanners Lake can have tighter lots and less convenient street access. Townhome and association-managed communities may also have their own parking or loading requirements.
Most homeowners associations in this area do not require a parking reservation. Where a reservation is needed, that arrangement is yours to make with the association or the city. Check your association's rules early so you know before the truck arrives.
Some Oakdale moves come with details worth sorting out early, whether that is an elevator reservation, an association parking rule, or a gap between closing dates.
Customers must reserve the elevator and dock doors. Contact your building before your date to arrange that and to check any moving-hour restrictions.
Oakdale has several senior and 55-plus communities. Our senior moving services cover careful packing and cautious handling of large, fragile, or sentimental pieces.
Associations usually do not require a parking reservation, but where one is needed, reserving it is the customer's responsibility rather than ours. Check those rules before moving day.
Storage services help when you need to leave one home before the next is ready. We use storage vaults, large containers that keep your belongings together inside a warehouse.
Snow, ice, snowbanks, and Oakdale's November through April parking restrictions affect where the truck can be staged and how far the crew has to carry your belongings.
Reserve one room or garage area for packed boxes before moving day. Start with seasonal items, decor, and storage items first, then label each box by room so unloading in Melrose Park is faster and easier.

Did you know Oakdale's housing was built in two distinct waves? The city counts 292 homes built in 1939 or earlier and 580 built in 2010 or later, with the great bulk of the city filling in between those two bookends. That split is why a crew that works one Oakdale street well is not automatically ready for the next one. A post-2010 townhome has wide interior doors and an association that decides where the truck parks. We ask which one you are before we assign the crew.
Before you pack a single box, pull the things that cannot legally ride on a moving truck. Paint, aerosols, propane tanks, pool chemicals, and old electronics are the usual ones people forget until moving morning. Washington County runs two Environmental Centers, one of them in Woodbury right next door to Oakdale, that take household hazardous waste and electronics from county residents. The Woodbury site is the South Environmental Center at 4039 Cottage Grove Drive; check the county's hours before you drive over, because they vary by day.
After that, pack one room at a time and keep each room's boxes together so they load and unload as a set. In Oakdale, add one more step: stage the finished boxes in the garage rather than by the curb. Between November and April the street may simply not be available to the truck on the morning you need it.
Oakdale supports 852 businesses employing 11,461 workers, and 7,681 of those workers commute in from outside the county. For an office or clinic here, a move is measured in hours the doors stay closed.
The I-94 corridor along the city's southern edge is being reshaped by the METRO Gold Line, which runs bus rapid transit largely in dedicated lanes and puts two stations inside Oakdale, Helmo and Greenway. Station-area development changes what is available and what access looks like around those sites.
Our commercial moving crews book nights and weekends, disconnect and reconnect workstations, and label by destination so equipment lands where it belongs. For office relocations we pack files and equipment into reusable E-Crate systems instead of cardboard, which stack cleanly on a cart and cut the unpacking down considerably. The idea is that you close on a Friday and open on a Monday.
They decide where the truck can legally sit, which on some dates matters more than anything else about the job. This is the local detail that catches people, and almost nobody mentions it until the truck is already blocked in.
Oakdale enforces winter parking restrictions from November 1 to April 1. During that window, no vehicle may park on a city street between midnight and 5 AM. The same ban applies at any hour once snow accumulation reaches two inches, and it holds until the street has been cleared.
For a moving day that means three practical things. A truck cannot stage on the street overnight ahead of an early start between November and April. If two inches falls the night before, on-street staging is gone at any hour until the plows have come through. And on a narrow older street near Tanners Lake, a plowed street with snowbanks on both sides is functionally narrower than the same street in July, which changes how close we can get and how long the carry is.
We plan winter Oakdale moves around driveway and lot staging rather than street staging, and we watch the forecast on the days leading up to your date. If a storm is coming, we would rather talk about it three days out than at 8 AM on moving day.
Packing is the part people most often underestimate, and it is also the part where the decision is genuinely yours to make. Our packing services run from a full pack of the entire home down to just the kitchen and the breakables, which are the two categories that cost people the most time and produce the most damage when rushed.
If you are moving out of an older Oakdale split-level or a home with a finished basement, the basement is usually the surprise. It holds more than anyone remembers, and it is the room that turns a five-hour job into an eight-hour one. Walk it before you book so the survey reflects reality.
Planning a move in Oakdale comes with local details like the city's winter parking rules, townhome association access, apartment loading windows, and a housing stock that changes character block to block. These answers cover common questions from homeowners, renters, and businesses in the area.
A local move generally lands between $1,500 and $2,500 depending on the size of the home. A one-bedroom apartment averages $1,000 to $1,500. Those are whole-job figures for the move itself. What moves you inside that range is square footage, drive time, the carry distance from door to truck, stairs or elevators, and the date. Our billing rules are published in our moving FAQ: a two-hour minimum, a $50 deposit to hold your date, and a clock that runs only while your items are on the truck. Access is what moves the total most here, and it is the part a phone call cannot assess, which is why we will not quote your move over the phone. Request a free quote and you will know your number before moving day, not after.
Monday through Wednesday. We run Discounted Rates midweek, because demand concentrates on weekends and the end of the month. If your dates are flexible, midweek is the easiest saving available, and it usually comes with better crew availability too.
From an inventory of what you actually own, the move date, and the distance between addresses. The things that catch people out are rarely about distance: a long carry from the door to where the truck can legally park, a shared elevator, a flight of stairs at one end, a basement nobody accounted for, or a date at the end of the month. None of those are hidden if the survey is done properly, which is the entire reason we do one.
A long carry means the crew has to carry your belongings an unusually long distance between the door and the truck, which happens when the truck cannot park close to an apartment entrance, a townhome, or a house. We will carry your belongings any distance. The longer carry adds labor time, and that time is reflected in the cost, which is why we ask about walk distances during the quote rather than discovering it on the day.
Both are legitimate. A full-service move means we bring the boxes and the truck, pack the home, move everything from A to B, and place your items where you want them in the new place. We will also haul the empty boxes away afterward through our debris removal service for a fee. The one service we do not provide is unpacking, so emptying the boxes and filling the cabinets stays with you. If you would rather pack yourself and have us take the furniture, the appliances, and the drive, that works too. The honest test is time: if you cannot give the packing several evenings across a couple of weeks, paying for the pack usually costs less than the rushed version costs you in damage on the day.
An average pack job runs $750 to $1,500. That figure covers the packing labor and materials only, not the move itself. Our packing services run from a full pack of the entire home down to just the kitchen and the breakables.
Ask for the license numbers, then actually look them up. Every legitimate Minnesota moving company carries a federal USDOT number and a state DOT number, and both are searchable in public registries. Ours are USDOT #1140502 and MN DOT #101574, and we are a ProMover certified carrier. Past that, three things are worth pausing on. A price quoted over the phone by someone who has not looked at your belongings is a guess, not an estimate. A large deposit demanded before anyone has been to your home is unusual. And a company that will not put the estimate in writing has told you something useful.
For a container, Oakdale does not require a permit, but it does require you to register the container before it is delivered. Worth knowing: we do not offer PODS or any portable container that sits on your driveway. We use vaults, which we load and unload from our trucks, so there is nothing to register and nothing parked outside your house for a week. For the truck itself, the constraint in Oakdale is the winter parking window rather than a permit, and private associations set their own rules on top of that.
The city handles both. Per the city's utility billing page, you can complete the Utility Start Service form or call 651-730-2710 to open service at your new address, and request a final bill on the old one so the account comes out of your name. Do it before moving day; it is the errand that most often gets forgotten until the first week in the new place.
Not necessarily, and the tradeoff is real. Demand is lowest in the coldest months, so availability is better. Against that you have short daylight, ice, and Oakdale's own rule: no on-street parking between midnight and 5 AM from November 1 to April 1, and none at any hour once two inches of snow has fallen, until the street is cleared. Winter moves go fine when the staging plan accounts for that from the start. We wrote more about the timing tradeoffs in our guide to the best time of year to move in Minnesota.
The end of May through August is the busiest stretch, and month-end dates go first in any season, so booking early gives you the most choice of dates. There is no minimum with us though. If we have a truck and a crew free, we will take a same-day move. A survey still needs to happen before we can commit to a number.
We do, and these particular cities are tied to Oakdale more tightly than most people realize. School District 622 spans seven communities, Oakdale among them, alongside North St. Paul, Maplewood, Lake Elmo, Landfall, Pine Springs and part of Woodbury. That is why so many Oakdale moves are short hops that keep the same schools: North St. Paul movers, Maplewood movers, Woodbury movers, and Lake Elmo movers.
Every Oakdale move comes down to the same handful of specifics: what you own, where it has to go, how far the crew has to carry it, and what the calendar and the weather are doing that week. We would rather learn all four before quoting than guess and revise. Tell us the address and the date you have in mind and we will get you a real number, whether you need residential moving, apartment moving, packing services, storage, or a commercial move.
