When it comes to packing booksAAA Movers is here to help you pack your beloved possessions like a pro. While it may be tempting to toss all of your books into one giant box, that can create overstuffed and hard to move lumps. This article will guide you through best practices for packing books for moving. Let’s get started!

Materials:

Step One: Sort Your Stack

Books are heavy and cumbersome to move, so now is a great time to make sure you’re moving only the books you want to keep. Sort your books into “Keep” and “Giveaway” piles. Once you’ve sorted them, research where you can donate or sell your used books. Great options include friends, second-hand bookstores, and local libraries.

Step Two: Prepare Your Boxes

Now, it’s time to construct your packing boxes for books. As tempting as it is to use large boxes, you’ll want medium-small size boxes, so they don’t become too heavy. Make sure these boxes are dry and don’t have any tears - you’ll want them to be as sturdy as possible. Seal the bottom seams with a double layer of packing tape. For the center seam, extend the tape halfway up the side of the box for extra durability.

If you’re an avid book collector, consider using wheeled travel luggage for packing books. Their wheels allow for easier transport to your destination.

Step Three: Determine the Value

Give extra care and attention to your more valuable books. Line the boxes you intend to use for your more precious books with scrunched up packing paper or bubble wrap. Line up the books vertically, with stiff cardboard between to keep those spines straight. For extra protection, wrap each volume individually in packing paper.

Step Four: Pack It!

Time to pack up your remaining books. Large books, such as coffee table volumes, can be stacked horizontally along the bottom of the box. On top and around those books, stack hardcover and paperback books either vertically or horizontally. Try using a mix of styles for packing books to maximize your boxes without overstuffing them.

Step Five: Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Before you seal your packing boxes for moving books, use your remaining packing paper to fill in any gaps so that books don’t shift and become damaged during the move. Double tape the box closed with packing tape, and use your permanent marker to label the box “Books”. You’re ready for your boxes to be delivered to your new place in style.
