When packing candles for a move, you want to do everything you can to make sure they arrive at your new destination without any damage. To help you do it correctly, the AAA Movers team has put together the following tips based on our years of experience.

How to Pack Candles for Moving

  1. Begin by gathering heavy-duty, appropriately sized packing boxes for your candles.
  2. Sort candles by size and type, keeping similar ones together.
  3. To prevent breakage, individually wrap each candle in bubble wrap, packing paper, or old towels, using a small piece of tape to secure the ends. Avoid using nice towels in case the candles end up melting.
Pro-tip: Consider placing the candles in their original packaging if they’re delicate or uniquely shaped.
  4. Pack the candles tightly in the box, using crumpled paper, bubble wrap, or packing peanuts to fill any gaps and prevent shifting during transit. Don’t overpack—make sure the weight is within the box’s capacity.
  5. Use a black permanent marker to label the box as "Fragile" and "Candles" to alert movers to handle it carefully. You can also write “Do Not Stack” so they know not to put heavy boxes on top of it.
  6. Store the box upright during transportation to minimize the risk of damage.

These extra steps will help ensure that your candles arrive at your new home intact and ready to add warmth and ambiance to your space.

Tips for Specific Candle Shapes

Is It Safe to Pack Candles When Moving?

It’s generally safe to pack candles when moving, but it does require careful handling and proper packaging to prevent damage during transit. If you’re worried about them, pack them in a separate box and keep them with you on Moving Day.

Will Candles Melt in a Moving Van?

Depending on the time of year you move, your candles could melt. After all, during a hot summer or a long-distance trip, they’ll be in the back of a van without air conditioning. And moving trucks can heat up quickly, especially if they’re sitting directly in the sun!
