With all the details to manage during a move, you may find yourself wishing you had a personal assistant. That might not fit within your personal moving budget, but since virtual helpers such as Siri, Cortana, Alexa, and Google assistant have entered the scene, 24-hour assistance has become possible for many people. That's right — now you can use your voice assistant as your personal move assistant! Here are 8 ways Alexa, Siri, or another virtual assistant can make your move easier.
Say something like "Alexa, make a to-to list," and then start listing things you need to do for your move. Your list could include running errands like returning items you've borrowed, filling out change of address forms, ordering moving supplies, and more. Additionally, you could have different lists to help separate different types of tasks.
Try saying something like "Siri, find professional movers near me." Of course, you'll want to do some research on the companies that come up, but you can at least get a start and make a list of which companies you'd like to research later!
Your virtual assistant can connect to your calendar and help you manage appointments, such as meeting with your real estate agent. Schedule appointments effortlessly, confirm dates and times, get reminders, and set alarms to keep you on track.
You can ask your voice assistant to order your moving supplies ("Alexa, order packing tape"), but this will require you to enable voice ordering and save payment info. You can also check to see where you can buy moving supplies nearby so you aren't traveling from store to store in search of what you need.
Maybe your spouse just texted asking if you need anything while they're out, and you realize you're almost out of tape. You can ask your Google assistant to read the text and write a reply or make a call without lifting a finger! You can also ask your virtual assistant to search your emails by date, vendor/sender, subject line, etc. to track down and reply to emails about your move.
Check out the weather for moving day! Ask Siri or Alexa what the weather forecast is for the day or week of your move so you can plan for whatever lies ahead. For example, if heavy rain is in the forecast, you can try to alter your move window or have tarps ready.
In the days or weeks leading up to your move, you can ask your virtual assistant how much gas is ("How much is gas right now?") and compare prices. If a drop in price happens, you can take advantage of it and fill up your vehicles and/or moving van.
"OK, Google, what's the traffic like on I-94?" Your voice assistant can give you up-to-the-minute updates on traffic, routes, and accidents or delays. You don't want to be stuck in traffic on move day, so plan your route — or reroute — in advance.
