When you're moving homes, the costs can quickly add up, and you might be looking for ways to keep your moving budget under control. That's totally understandable, as long as you don't cut things that will hinder more than help.

If you're planning a move and trying to decide whether or not to use a moving company, here are 5 reasons a moving service is well worth the cost.

1. Movers save you time

Moving on your own always takes longer than you anticipate that it will. Many people go into it thinking they'll get it done in a few hours only to find themselves still lugging around boxes eight hours later.

Trained movers can actually achieve those ambitious timeframes, saving you a significant amount of time and sweat equity. Then you're freed up to use your time for other things — like unpacking!

2. Movers save you money

If you think you'll save yourself a ton of cash by moving on your own instead of using movers, think again. Once you've shelled out the cash for a moving truck, gas, equipment, food and beverages for volunteers, and any other incidentals,  your "savings" will quickly dwindle — and your stress will go up.

3. Movers have proper equipment & training

Professional movers are trained (and certified) in safe and efficient packing and moving techniques and have all the equipment that is needed to move all of your items and secure everything properly. Movers also know how to disassemble and move your bed, sofa, and other large items. In addition, they know how to properly move miscellaneous items like pool tables, pianos, and artwork.

Attempting to move everything yourself can lead to injury — particularly back and knee injuries. Let professional movers do the heavy lifting!

4. Movers preserve your relationships

No matter how much your family and friends care about you and want to be there when you need them, no one likes moving. It's stressful enough organizing your own move (especially when you're going it alone and not using professional help), let alone being enlisted to help with someone else's move.

5. Movers will save you from stress

The part of a move that everyone dreads the most is the actual moving day. Despite the potential excitement of moving into your new home, you also have the stress of knowing you have a long day ahead of you moving all your possessions.

Conversely, if you wake up on moving day and know that you just have to wait for your movers to arrive, you can be much more relaxed. Knowing professionals are on their way means you can simply relax, have some coffee, and go over your moving checklist one last time.
